I remember ‘back in the days’ having one tape full of The Simpsons Halloween episodes that I watched over and over again. Now, instead of tapes I have TiVo and instead of The Simpsons it’s Grand Designs.
I watch the The Scandinavian House episode every few months to admire the simplistic mid-century vibe, the parquetry flooring and the gorgeous staircase. The architect and owner of this 2010 house, Kathryn Tyler, has built at the back of her mum’s property in Lizard Peninsula and is one of the loveliest homes I’ve seen.
I love Kathryn’s sense of style. She has a collection of ceramics and books that are proudly displayed, rather than being hidden away in cupboards and it gives the house a really lived-in, personal and unique feeling. A lot of the furniture in her house were second hand finds (some even from the side of the road outside her mum’s house!) that she has refinished in a meticulous fashion.
You can watch the episode of Grand Designs (over and over) for yourself here.
